As Heard on Irie Jam Radio: Clean Body Care, Culture, and 7 Simple Ingredients

I’m honored to share that My Emollient was featured on Irie Jam Radio during Caribbean Heritage Month.

What made this moment even more special is how it happened. The host discovered My Emollient at a pop-up, purchased the Lemon & Sage Body Butter, tried it at home, and then invited me on air to share the story behind the brand.

For a founder-led small business, moments like this mean so much. Not because of the spotlight alone, but because the product was experienced first. It started with someone trying the body butter, feeling the difference, and wanting to learn more about the story behind it.

My Emollient began as a personal solution for my own dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. After being diagnosed with eczema, I wanted to be more intentional about what I was putting on my body every day. I started paying closer attention to ingredient lists, and I realized how difficult it could be to find products that felt both effective and truly simple.

That became the beginning of My Emollient.

The brand is rooted in clean body care, ingredient transparency, and the plant wisdom I grew up around in Jamaica. My grandmother’s approach to care, using plants, herbs, and simple remedies, has always stayed with me. That foundation continues to shape how I think about product development today.

One of my favorite moments from the interview was when the host read the Lemon & Sage Body Butter ingredient list live on air. She paused because she could actually understand what she was reading.

That moment captured something very important to me.

Clean body care should not come with a mystery ingredient list.

Lemon & Sage Body Butter is made with simple, nourishing ingredients including shea butter, mango butter, kokum butter, aloe butter, safflower oil, grapeseed oil, and beeswax. It was created to support dry, sensitive skin with rich moisture and a soft finish, without the sticky residue many people expect from body butter.

Every jar is handmade in Brooklyn in small batches with intention and care.

Being featured during Caribbean Heritage Month made this moment even more meaningful. My Emollient is a Brooklyn-made brand, but its roots are deeply connected to culture, community, and the wisdom passed down through generations.

Thank you to Irie Jam Radio for creating space for this conversation, and thank you to everyone who continues to support My Emollient.
